With five units of the National Park Service's Chattahoochee National Recreation Area either in or immediately adjacent to Johns Creek, rafting and kayaking are popular pastimes. As are the national park's many beautiful, wooded walking trails and picnic areas. The Johns Creek Greenway, Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center, Newtown Park and Ocee Park also provide many walking and hiking options.

An active adult center – Park Place at Newtown School – was opened in 2011 in a renovated 1929 four-classroom schoolhouse. The center is open Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Friday until noon, with a variety of fun, helpful, and interesting activities.

The community enjoys a number of free events. Founders Day is actually a week-long annual celebration of the city's official incorporation on Dec. 1, 2006.Community Safety Day, Movies at Newtown Park and Public Works Day are family favorites, while Breakfast with Santa and the spring Easter Egg Huntcater to our youngest citizens. The Fall Family Festival, Farmers Market,Summer Concerts and Johns Creek Arts Festival have something for everyone. And for your furry BFF, check out 'Pup-a-Palooza' at Newtown Dream Dog Park.

The 10,600-square-foot open-air Newtown Park Amphitheater was opened in 2014 and provides a venue for concerts, with up to 400 seats under cover, and another 1,000 seats on its terraced grass surroundings.

If you want to serve Johns Creek, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including the annual Founders Day Parade, Recreation and Parks' special events, Farmers Market, Park Place at Newtown School (Johns Creek's active adult center) and more.
